IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-HTU)

Background

The IBM ThinkPad T42p, a rugged laptop. It has all the bells and whistles (this one testing with only is missing bluetooth). The IBM ultrabay can accomidate a CDROM/DVD, Zip disk, SuperDisk, and even a hard drive (which will come up in Linux as /dev/hdc); very nice. A great screen resolution (1600x1200) can accomidate just about any application, and then some!

Hardware

Distribution: Fedora 7

Since this is FC7, we're not getting into the detail of what needs to happen to get the install working. The video, sound, cdrom, network, pcmcia, and other misc drivers will all be set automagically by FC7. We'll just delve into the finer points such as an extra wireless card(s).

Wireless Devices

Since installing your own miniPCI card doesn't work you may want to consider installing the Error 1802 patch. This patch modifies the CMOS which controls weather the card is "unauthorized" (from the README). Even further reference can be read at http://www.paul.sladen.org/thinkpad-r31/wifi-card-pci-ids.html.

Atheros cards can download any of the MadWIFI drivers. The old drivers or the NG drivers work fine, it all depends on what you want to use them for ;). For using the old drivers, you must use the openhal code or else it won't compile properly under FC7.

Other Options

The biometric thumbprint reader cannot be tested since the model doesn't have that feature.
